[NOTE: this is Part TWO of the Week One presentation, so make sure you watch Part ONE first!!] The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, DC, sponsors an annual "Summer Camp Film Festival." The theme in 2012 was "Baby Kamp," and the 3 films shown were "Baby Face" (1933), "Baby Doll" (1956), and "Cry-Baby" (1990). The "Camp Counselor"-Host of the Summer Camp Film Festival was Dave Wilt (me). This year's series began on 14 June 2012 with the Barbara Stanwyck vehicle "Baby Face", a movie about a young woman who uses her feminine wiles to exploit men in order to escape a life of poverty and abuse. This film was severely cut and re-edited to placate the censors, and was only available in its revised version for many years. However, fortunately the uncut "Baby Face" was re-discovered in 2005 and is now available on DVD for all to see. The introduction to "Baby Face" at the Hirshhorn festival included a discussion of "pre-Code" Hollywood, a period in the early 1930s when the Production Code Administration had not yet become the industry's in-house censor board. The background of some of the cast and crew in the film are also briefly covered.
